Sustainability — Canggu Luxury Homes’ Environmental & Community Commitments

Sustainability & Community Impact: Our Commitment to Bali

At Canggu Luxury Homes, we believe true luxury creates enduring value. Our business is intrinsically linked to the health of Bali’s environment, where tourism contributes over 50% to the local economy but also challenges its resources. We are deeply committed to a responsible development model guided by the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony between people, nature, and the spiritual world.

Environmental Stewardship

We actively seek to minimize our environmental footprint. In our new developments, we aim to divert over 75% of construction waste from landfills and mandate greywater recycling systems, which can reduce a villa’s freshwater consumption by up to 40%, protecting Bali’s precious natural resources.

  • Championing Green Building: We prioritize and advise clients on properties that incorporate sustainable design principles. This includes passive cooling, the use of locally and sustainably sourced materials (like certified teak wood), solar panel installations for energy efficiency, rainwater harvesting systems to alleviate pressure on the island’s water table, and advanced bio-septic systems for wastewater treatment.
  • Carbon Offsetting: We partner with the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve project in Kalimantan, a verified carbon offset project, to offset the annual carbon footprint of our office operations and business-related air travel.
  • Marine Conservation Partnership: A percentage of our annual profits is dedicated to supporting the Coral Triangle Center in Sanur. This contribution aids their vital work in training marine resource managers and protecting the world’s most diverse marine ecosystem, which lies at Indonesia’s doorstep.
  • Reducing Single-Use Plastics: Our office is a designated single-use plastic-free zone. We also actively partner with and promote villa management companies that have robust policies for eliminating single-use plastics from their operations.

Community Empowerment & Cultural Preservation

Our success is intertwined with the well-being of the local Balinese community. We are committed to being a positive force by sourcing over 70% of our decorative materials from Indonesian artisans and ensuring that at least 85% of our villa operational staff are hired from local villages.

  • Local Employment and Development: We are proud that over 90% of our core team are Indonesian nationals. We provide ongoing professional development and training, and we strongly encourage the properties we represent to prioritize local hiring and use local suppliers.
  • Supporting Local Artisans: We facilitate connections between our clients and local artisans, furniture makers, and artists from communities like Mas and Ubud. This not only ensures authentic design for their homes but also directs economic benefits to the island’s creative heartland.
  • Direct Community Contributions: We maintain strong, respectful relationships with the local village councils (*banjar*) in the Canggu area, such as Banjar Tegal Gundul and Banjar Padang Linjong. We provide regular financial support for community improvement projects, temple ceremonies (*odalan*), and youth education initiatives.
  • Respecting Cultural Heritage (*Adat*): We provide all our clients with a comprehensive guide on Balinese culture and etiquette (*adat*). We believe that informed and respectful residents are the best neighbors and custodians of the island’s living culture.

Our commitment to sustainability is not a separate initiative; it is core to our business philosophy. By investing in a property through us, our clients also invest in Bali’s future, as 1% of our annual net profit is directly contributed to local education and environmental programs.
